Get Back to Basics with A Wade House Christmas

The holiday season is finally upon us! Around this time every year, most everyone across the country is consumed by getting the best deals on their Christmas lists, keeping up with the Jones and their decorations, and countless other trivial things. Sometimes, it just makes you wish that you could go back in time to when there was no such thing as Black Friday. Believe it or not, there was a time when the holidays were more about spending quality time with loved ones, rather than skipping Thanksgiving dinner to be the first in line for those deals.

The Nutcracker Ballet Makes its Return for the Holidays!

The holiday season is officially upon us, and what better way to welcome it than with the annual performance of The Nutcracker? Once again, the Dancescape Ballet Company will deliver a spectacular showing of the traditional Tchaikovsky ballet at the Weill Center for the Performing Arts in Sheboygan, WI. If you’re planning to one last trip to the area before Christmas Day, we would highly recommend making this your weekend of choice, as the town will be absolutely buzzing with holiday cheer.

The Nutcracker Ballet Makes its Return for the Holidays

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 6th and Sunday, December 7, 2014, The Nutcracker’s return to Sheboygan is a clear indicator that Christmas is well on its way. For those who are unfamiliar, this traditional holiday ballet was inspired by E.T.A Hoffman’s story of The Nutcracker and the King of Mice.

Though certain details from the story have changed from what was originally written, the fundamental plot has remained the same; a young German girl is gifted a toy Nutcracker from her godfather and dreams of an epic battle between him and a Mouse King. Ultimately, the Nutcracker is victorious and is transformed into a noble prince, allowing him to run away happily with the girl. When the dream comes to an end, the girl wakes peacefully beside her Christmas tree with her toy Nutcracker in hand.

Even if you have never seen a performance of The Nutcracker, we’d be willing to bet that you have heard Tchaikovsky’s musical compositions for the ballet and have associated them with the Christmas holiday. For a refresher, take a listen here.

There will be three chances to catch The Nutcracker in Sheboygan; at 2p.m. or 7p.m. on Saturday or at 2p.m. on Sunday. Regardless of which performance you can make it to, tickets will cost a reasonable $21.

If you’re visiting from out of town, keep in mind that the Weill Center for the Performing Arts is a mere 20 minutes from our Bed and Breakfast Hotel at N4922 Hillwind Road in Plymouth, WI.

The 18th Annual Sheboygan Area Garden Walk is Coming Soon! | Inn on Hillwind

The Sheboygan Garden Walk is quickly approaching, taking place on Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 9am to 4pm. The cost of participating in the walk is a mere $10 and will include access to nine different private gardens throughout the area.

Hosted by the Ivy League and the Lakeshore Garden Club, this event was first brought about in an effort to stimulating interest in the art of gardening, landscape design and home/civic beautification. Additionally, both groups hope that with events like this one, more people will become aware of the importance of protecting and conserving natural resources, wildlife and horticulture.

The proceeds for the walk go to benefit a number of local non-profit organizations with a “gardening connection.” In the past 16 years alone, the walk has been able to raise nearly $100,000 for these organizations and both Ivy League and the Lakeshore Garden Club have high hopes that this year will be just as much of a success as every other year.

Rain or shine, the Sheboygan Area Garden Walk will take place in just a week and a half and we hope to see you there! If you’re planning to travel in from out of town, don’t forget to book your stay with us here at our bed and breakfast hotel, located at N4922 Hillwind Road in Plymouth, WI.
